Female bass player wanted in Grand Rapids Michigan
*Who we are*: We are a new, all female bluegrass band called ‘Liza Jane’,
based in West Michigan. We are a group of friends and acquaintances with a
similar love of old time, bluegrass, gospel and blues music. We currently
have 4 members: Bobbie on banjo; Michelle on Fiddle and Mandolin; Karen on
Mandolin, and Julie on guitar.
*Our upcoming gigs*: We are booking for the festival season 2012, and have
comfirmed a gig at the Ionia fair (July), Fallfest bluegrass festival in
Lowell (September), and possibly a gig at the Ionia theater on May 6th,
tentatively. Other gigs are being formulated, but not set in stone until we
get our bass player up to speed.
*What we need*: We need an upright bass player. Females only will be
considered for the permanent position, but men may help out temporarily
until a female can be found. Electric bass players, please do not apply.
Upright, acoustic bass players only.
*How we practice*: We meet 2 to 4 times per month at a friend’s house in
Marne to practice. We are flexible enough with each others schedules to
understand when it’s difficult to get to practice. We consider ourselves a
‘fun’ band, not too serious. We all like to sing, and are willing to share
the mic with you.
*What you get*: 1/5 of all proceeds from paying gigs, and a great opportunity to strut your stuff!!
Songs we’re working on: Busted (Patty Loveless), Reuben (Earl Scruggs), Bill Cheatham in A (traditional), Riding on that midnight train, I’ve endured (Ola Belle Reed), When God dips his pen of love in my heart (Allison Krauss), Crossing the Cumberlands in Gm (Nashvlle Bluegrass Band), Back up and Push, Angelina Baker in D (Steven Foster), Sail away ladies/Sally Ann, Milk Cow blues, Make me a pallet on your floor, Seven Bridges road, Lonesome wind blues (Rhonda Vincent), Redwood Hills (country gentlemen), Country Blues (Dock Boggs), and others.
